Jack Millard, Artistic Background

Jack Millard has been painting for many years. In his college years, Millard studied architecture receiving a Bachelor of Architecture at Miami University. He practiced architecture in New York City working for architects Paul Rudolph and Peter Marino. His work in architecture taught him to appreciate structure and spatial relations, very much influencing his paintings. Millard's work is largely an exploration of material, surface, color, texture and form. Ranging over time from geometric abstraction to distorted figures, landscapes and portraiture, Millard’s paintings suggest deeper, psychological narratives rooted in everyday relationships. The resulting images are bold, a mingling of familiar shapes and unexpected juxtapositions.
